The Miller Residence is a 4,200 sq. ft. custom home in East Aurora, NY. The two-storey concrete residence used Amvic™ ICF for full-height exterior walls, AmDeck Pro for the green roof deck, and AmPex for underslab radiant floor insulation.
The $3.1 million home was designed as Net Zero Ready and built into a hillside to create a functional green roof. Architects Crafted Concepts also incorporated radiant floor heating and an open floor plan without interior load-bearing walls, for exceptional homeowner comfort and greater design flexibility.

Q. What was the major benefit of using Amvic™ ICF over traditional construction methods?
A. “Constructing an all-ICF structure — with no interior load-bearing walls — presented one of the most demanding aspects of the project. Every wall, beam pocket, and roof interface required precise reinforcement detailing. Extensive rebar integration became the defining structural challenge: some wall sections required #9 rebar at 12 inches on center, along with dense horizontal reinforcement and stirrups around large window openings. Additional Crafted Concepts added Helix (steel reinforced fibers) into their concrete mix for additional strength.
To resist lateral and shear forces, the engineering team designed an underground “kickstand” footing system at one of the vertical wall columns. This subterranean concrete brace was formed and poured to counteract the immense horizontal forces imposed by the hillside and roof structure above — an uncommon and highly specialized solution for a residential application.”
