EPS Bridge Deck Fillers
Geofoam has been used in geotechnical applications for more than 30 years. The outstanding compressive strength of EPS makes it a great choice for bridge deck filler.
Geofoam in Bridge Deck Filler Applications
Geofoam is only 1% the weight of soil and rock and less than 10% the weight of other lightweight fill alternatives, making it an excellent soil substitute. Geofoam outperforms traditional embankment fill by reducing backfill weight which lowers lateral forces on abutment walls, foundations, and other retaining structures. This reduces both design and construction costs.
Geofoam blocks provide stability to unstable soil conditions. Their lightweight characteristics make them a great solution for lightening the load of concrete in bridges. The low thermal conduction property of Geofoam is ideal for use in roadway and runway subgrade insulation and frost protected shallow foundation construction.
Geofoam is resistant to settling, deterioration, and water damage. The integrity of Geofoam blocks remains unchanged when buried for years beneath soil and water.
Why EPS?
EPS has high R-value retention, is fully recyclable, and is easily customizable. EPS is made without ozone-harming compounds or any kind of dye. It is available in a variety of compressive strengths and has superior bonding capabilities. Best of all, EPS will save you time and money. So the real question is: Why not EPS?
