This article was posted on December 23, 2014, by Insulation Corporation of America (ICA) – a Women-Owned manufacturer of Geofoam and Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), which is commonly but mistakenly referred to as Styrofoam™. ICA is located in Allentown, PA and services the entire Mid-Atlantic Region from Virginia to Maine to Ohio.
‘Tis the season for packages and gifts. What we’re usually left with is a lot of white stuff – EPS foam. That is Expanded PolyStyrene, which is often incorrectly referred to as Styrofoam™. But Styrofoam™ is a Dow trade name and is actually blue in color.
So before you throw away any packaging foam you might accumulate over the holiday season, check with your local recycling rules or for a drop-off location near you. There is no need for EPS foam to end up in landfills. It can go back into the manufacturing process of foam blocks or packaging or it can be compacted and densified to create totally new products such as coat hangers, picture frames, cd cases, glue, etc.
Recycle EPS!
Here at ICA, the public can drop off clean, dry, tape- & label-free EPS foam at our location Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
