We recently had the pleasure of writing a guest blog for InSoFast. We both share an admiration for the extraordinary product that is EPS, expanded polystyrene, and thank them for the opportunity to discuss it further on their blog. It’s difficult to sum up the applications and benefits of EPS since there are just too many to count, but in the blog post, we encompass the manufacturing process of EPS from tiny beads to enormous blocks, its application as Geofoam for soil substitution, its compatibility with concrete in ICFs, its use as signage material, and its recyclability. We also discuss EPS’s inaccurate “Styrofoam” label and its advantage over XPS (extruded polystyrene) and Polyiso, the latter of which was recently required to lower its R-Value specifications in the midst of controversy.
EPS is a rigid, stable, and consistent product that retains its R-Values over time. The virtually endless customizability of EPS, with its availability in various thicknesses and densities, makes it one of the most versatile products on the market today.
