Q. What was the major benefit of using Amvic Insulated Concrete Forms and the AmDeck Floor System for this residential building ?

A. This is a generational home. This 3 story home features 6-inch ICF wall construction, 1,000 sq. ft. per floor, constructed with 2 Amdeck Pro floors and Amdeck Pro roof systems along with a Mansard roof– the Mansard was then built with half trusses which were finished on the inside to provide the enclosure for the Roof Deck.

Heat is radiant in floor heat set in the concrete slabs on all 3 floors. The programmable EcoBee thermostats on 1st & 2nd floors are set at 75 and 76 degrees, 3rd floor is set @ 72. High efficiency gas boiler runs 2-3 times a day for a ½ hour during the dead of winter (February). Temperature never varies more than 2 degrees, even with the HRV system.

The project was built with the goal of being a flood compliant, highly efficient green building. To maximize the view, design & build, they incorporated 4 elevated decks including 2 suspensions, 1 floating and 1 traditional. In its design, the residence building includes a unique 780 sq ft Roof deck enclosed within a mansard roof system offering a 360-degree view.

“ICF was planned for the foundation and stem wall for the project.

The Owners were walking through a Home Show in Providence RI looking at different products & energy ideas. Half way through the show, they spotted a small display of ICF blocks (there
were others at the show) that looked bigger and heavier from a distance. It looked even better up close where the rounded internal corners and a pin and spline connection design could be seen.

A few days later we met with the Distributor at our house. He asked us simply why we did not build the whole house out of ICF. Told us he could supply us with a package for the whole shell (ICF, Steel, etc.) and support for the build if the Building Dept would let us take down the house & rebuild.

We set up a meeting with the Building Dept, got the nod, hammered out a contract and began the process.”
