Client: William Vale Hotel in Brooklyn, NY
Challenge: The hotel wanted to create a rooftop outdoor living space without compromising the integrity of the building.
Solution: Geofoam is a versatile lightweight, mold free, high r-value building material that opens the door to countless green roof designs that creates a park-like setting in the most unlikely urban places. These expanded polystyrene (EPS foam) Geofoam blocks are widely used to bring to life the visions of landscape architects.
The rise of landscape architecture has elevated outdoor design across urban settings around the world as designers transform the once empty rooftops to blank canvases with unlimited potential. These reimagined outdoor spaces in residential, commercial and public spaces are breathing new life into properties like never before.
Landscape architecture using Geofoam has allowed for incredible space transformations with design enhancements such as: water features, fire pits, amphitheaters, a rolling hill, outdoor kitchens and so much more. These customized design elements are made possible thanks to the building material, geofoam.
The lightweight, water resistant attributes of Geofoam is ideal in a rooftop application. In many cities, apartments and hotels are investing in rooftop gardens and patios. Brooklyn, NY is an example of an urban area recreating itself into a highly sought-out community for millennials. Landscape architects are fulfilling their living requirements by including unique outdoor living spaces in all shapes and sizes.
The William Vale Hotel located in the trendy Williamsburg section of Brooklyn was in need of a product to create their impressive outdoor space. While under construction in 2015, Alleguard delivered 15 truckloads of EPS Geofoam to allow the landscape architects to create the outdoor environment on this elevated piece of prime real estate. After all this wasn’t “just any” hotel – the WV hotel is complete with a rooftop bar, breathtaking views, green spaces, upscale dining, special events venues, and a 60-foot outdoor pool and café. In August of 2016 the hotel opened its doors and did not disappoint when they unveiled their urban-to-rural space.
