Several news reports have been capturing the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Dorian which has said to be one of the worst natural disasters experienced in the Bahamas.
Hurricane Dorian hit Marsh Harbour, on Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas on September 1st, facing massive destruction and flooding. According to the Office of U.S Foreign Disaster Assistance, 60% of homes in northern Abaco were destroyed or severely damaged (Source: Tropical Cyclone DORIAN Update from ReliefWeb). For one homeowner, he can fortunately say that his home is still standing after 36 hours of withstanding the Hurricane.

As natural disasters continue to take lives and destroy homes, one can only want to prevent the situation from happening again and prepare for the worst. Insulated concrete Forms (ICF’s) have constantly been proven to be a building material that can stand tall amidst natural disasters like the one recently endured on the islands of the Bahamas, and since we cant always change building behaviours, we need to educate on ways to build disaster resistant buildings; especially in disaster prone areas.
